Law Enforcement in the 21st Century is ever changing and evolving to fit the needs of the community it is protecting and serving. I was employed with the Montrose Police Department for over 11 years. I also have previous experience working in the corrections department of two other Sheriff’s Departments. As a female law enforcement officer, I pride myself on always taking the extra step in everything that I do whether it be in my interaction with my coworkers, working on a high profile case, or completing tasks that are assigned to me. I have found my integrity and leadership skills are prevalent in everything I do and these qualities are directly correlated to my ability to lead others, in even high stress situations, which has proven that I am a person my administration can count on. When contacting the community or outside agencies, my dedication, hard work, and professionalism is transparent, which directly relates to my work product.
I graduated with my Master of Science Degree in Leadership in Law Enforcement and Public Safety in May 2017 from the University of San Diego with a 4.0 GPA. Unlike traditional criminal justice programs, the University of San Diego’s program emphasizes leadership development, ethics, tangible skill building and the immediate application of these skills to contemporary law enforcement and public safety issues. Through my Master's Program I have developed my knowledge base in the areas of administration, leadership, budgeting, conflict resolution, change management, community relations, and data-driven analysis and decision-making. This advanced education does not only contribute to my career development, but will also provide applicable and useful skills necessary to be more effective in day-to-day policing. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Colorado State University-Pueblo in Social Work and graduated Cum Laude. While at the Montrose Police Department, I worked six years on patrol as an Officer, just over two years in the investigations unit as a Major Case Detective, and was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in April 2016. As a Patrol Officer I was a Senior Officer for several years which included supervising a patrol shift and the last year I also completed monthly evaluations when my sergeant was gone. As a Detective the majority of my cases were in the realm of sex offenses whether it be child, adult, or child pornography. I currently lead the department in the most successful prosecutions in the realm of sex offenses. Also as a Detective I was a part of the 7th Judicial District Critical Incident Team which investigates all officer involved critical incidents within our judicial district. I have been the Team Leader and Assist Team Leader while completing multi-jurisdictional investigations. In a very short time I became one of the top preforming Sergeants within the Montrose Police Department. Last year I led the Sergeants in the most arrests and call load, which was accompanied by the top performing shift within the Patrol Division. I lead by example and rely on my transformational leadership style when working with my officers . I have also been a part of the Montrose Police Department’s SWAT Team for eight years. I have been on the entry team the entire time and have become one of the leaders on the team that is in charge of team training, I assist with operation orders and complete research and data collection for the SWAT Team budget .
As a leader in law enforcement I look to further become a change agent for my department and community. I hope to continue to have an influential part in my department and the officers I work with on a daily basis. I hope to further my career and advance within the department. I hope to bring sound critical thinking and problem solving as my department strives to become more effective and efficient while providing public safety to our community.
